 Ann Dezendorf

Possible Dreams Creative Director, Ann Dezendorf, has designed and art directed Clothtique™ Santa figures since 2003. Ann's hand-made, unique and mixed media themed Santa figurines bring family memories and holiday traditions to life.

We asked Ann if she ever designed a piece knowing that you would have to make changes because it was too detailed, too simple, had too much technology, but you did anyway because you loved the idea? "All the time," was her response. "As a matter of fact, Possible Dreams' figures have become more sophisticated and complex every year. I keep pushing the sculptors to add more detail or facial expressions; and development teams to try new techniques, like embroidery or lighting. Since I work in mixed media, it is a challenge for molding, shrinkage and assembly. And since these are handmade, they are very labor intensive. I always need to consider their value and if they are affordable. For every piece that I introduce each year, there may have been up to ten options that we considered before we finalized the design. That's why it takes a year before we create the final pre-production samples."

Ann told us that her favorite new piece for 2015 is "Wonderland of Snow" (4046530) featuring Mrs. Claus riding in an antique sleigh with Santa skating along behind. Both are dressed in their finest winter wraps. The piece includes a lighted garland. "I'm a fan of white Christmases, ice skating and twinkle lights. I wanted them to have some special time together and it felt very elegant and romantic to me."

Directing the Possible Dreams Clothtique figurine collection includes developing ideas and concepts from a variety of outside artists and licenses. Ann is continually challenged to create unique and innovative Santa figures that bring the magic of Christmas alive to families throughout the United States. She hopes that you will keep the Possible Dreams Santa figurines as part of your family's Christmas traditions for many years to come.

Retired and Collectible Santas

Possible Dreams Santa figures are typically produced for only 1-2 years before being retired. Being retired means that Department 56 is no longer making these particular Possible Dreams Santas. Retirement lists are usually announced in November and we make these lists available for customers and collectors so that know which Santa figures are on the verge of selling out and no longer available. Prices on the retirement lists are suggested retail at the time of production. Prices for Possible Dreams Santas after retirement can vary and in some cases be much higher for popular designs.

Possible Dreams Guest Artists

Occasionally Possible Dreams creates a few Santas designed by independent artists who have their own childhood visions of the jolly old guy. Over the years these guest artists have included Elfie Benvennti, Jeanne Beury, Tom Browning, Joyce Cleveland, Mary Engelbreit, Lyn Fletcher, Rob Grist, Joan Hargate, Warren Stanley and Bob Stableton.
