Russian Santa Claus and the Snowmaiden

Santa Claus and the Snowmaiden with birds. The scene on the front has a beautiful little blond haired snowmaiden comforting several winter birds - wonderful detail. Painted in shades of blue and white using a floral pattern and painting technique which is quite rare and time consuming. The artist uses multiple (very thin) layers of paint to create extreme depth, almost like a veil or frost, to soften and give multiple tones. This is all accented by detail of gold and white. Very stunning throughout and Santa has a wonderful face and comforting eyes. This Russian Santa Claus is hand carved from solid linden, also known as either basswood or lime. Once carved and sanded the Santa is meticulously hand painted and finished in extraordinary detail with numerous coats and finally signed or initialed by the artist.
