Whittle While You Work - by Mark and Janet Klein

Whittle While you Work by Mark and Janet Klein. The Klein's most intricately designed and detailed Kringle carving to date. Being carved out of a single piece of wood only fellow wood carvers can truly appreciate the depth, detail and design work in this most artistic and well themed three and a half inch masterpiece. While the overall size is slightly smaller than a 4 inch cube the images may portray this piece to be much, much larger. Many specially designed carving tools were fabricated to work in such tight spaces. The eight miniature Santas decorating the tree in perfect symmetry are each between .75 and 1.5 inches in height, with the one standing on the back corner of the base measuring 1.75 inches. Santa is busy carving more miniatures and they are all in various stages of creation, from a block of wood, a roughed out piece of wood with pencil drawing marks, to the partially carved piece in Santa's hands he's concentrating on. His eyes are perfectly focused on the cutting edge of his knife blade as he carved away at one of the final Santas. Notice the curl in Santa's beard as it touches the wood floor, the relief and detail of the holly on his hat, the tight spaces between all the Santa ornaments and the tree and the depth of undercuts of the Christmas tree itself. This carving could have been made much easier by cutting countless corners throughout this piece, however that would not be Mark or Janet's style as they thrive on pushing the detail in their carvings to new extremes. Simply amazing! Several hundreds of hours were spent in the design and creation of this wonderful carving. Designed, carved, painted and finished by Mark and Janet Klein - signed on the bottom.
